New Portarlington coach Sam Scott has unveiled former Leopold teammate and Demons product Brock Williamson as the first major recruit of his tenure.

If Scott’s appointment at the Demons was one of local football’s worst-kept secrets of 2025, the return of Williamson, who won the inaugural Frank Fopiani Medal as best-on-ground in last year’s GFNL grand final, wasn’t far behind.

After debuting as a 16-year-old in 2014, Williamson made 71 appearances for Portarlington and represented the Bellarine at interleague level before joining Leopold permanently in 2021 after initially playing a reserves game at Memorial Park in 2017.

At the Lions, he played 63 games, featuring in the club’s losing grand final in 2022, and consecutive premierships across the past two years.

Williamson’s impressive 2024 season earned him a spot on Geelong’s VFL list this year, making his lone appearance against Carlton.

“A silky midfielder with elite footy IQ around stoppages, Brock’s clean hands, sharp decision making, and precise ball skills will be a huge asset to our group,” the Demons said in a statement.

“Already a proven finisher in front of goal, he’s another weapon to add to our midfield in S’26.”

Williamson’s signing follows commitments from a range of current Portarlington stars, including Bellarine Team of the Year ruckman Scott Greenough, Teia Miles, Tom Panuccio, co-captains Mitch Turnbull and Max Ruiter, and former Leopold trio Riley Hayden, Nick Lane and Mitch Howard.

Meanwhile, Queenscliff has followed up the signing of Sunraysia league star Sam Kalbfell with the addition of Jaydo Wright from Ballarat league club Lake Wendouree.

He previously played with Ararat Eagles in the Mininera and District league, winning the competition’s best-and-fairest in 2022 and 2023, and captained the Eagles to the flag in 2022.
