A quintet of clubs has banded together to raise funds for a long-serving local football identity facing an extended stint in hospital.

Brian Hodgkins, 71, suffered a fall before Christmas that required spinal surgery at Melbourne’s Austin Hospital.

A GoFundMe has been established by Newcomb, where the man affectionately known as ‘Gorby’ has most recently been involved.

Hodgkins, who has had five decades of involvement in the region, also held roles at Leopold, guiding the Lions to the 1988 Bellarine reserves premiership, North Geelong, Queenscliff, and St Albans, all of which are supporting the fundraiser.

“His recovery will be a long journey which may include up to 6 months in hospital,” the Power wrote.

“We are raising funds to support Gorby’s medical costs where required and accommodation costs for his family to stay close in Melbourne.

“Gorby has had links in the local football community for the last 55 years and is known by so many.

“He has held roles since his playing days as Chairman of Selectors and coach and committee member for the five clubs above. He loves his footy!
