Concussion sidelines Heads great

Barwon Heads great Mitch Herbison has entered the 21-day concussion protocol after suffering a delayed concussion following last week’s loss to Modewarre.

Seagulls coach Sam Schaller confirmed the star forward was diagnosed with a concussion on Sunday following a collision with gun Warrior Oscar Cooke early in the clash at Mt Moriac Reserve.

Herbison is ruled out of tomorrow’s clash against Newcomb at Howard Harmer Oval and the following matches against Queenscliff and Drysdale.

An assistant coach with Geelong VFL, he would have missed the meeting with the Hawks due to commitments at the Cats.

A clash with Geelong the following week means the veteran won’t pull on a Seagulls jumper until the return meeting with Geelong Amateur in Round 12.

Barwon Heads has made three changes for the crucial clash, with Lachie Blacket (managed) and Sonni Walter also out of the team that lost to Modewarre.

Kyle Polley and Charlie Hurst return after missing last week, with Tom Baker recalled from the reserves.

In a blow for the Power, big man Jarrod Stafford is unavailable, while Thewin Robertson is facing an extended stint on the sidelines after suffering a torn bicep laying a tackle in last week’s loss to Anglesea.

Jacob Watson returns from a shoulder injury, with Peter Gordyn recalled from the reserves.

Ocean Grove will unveil a further two debutants among six forced changes for the Battle of Grubb Road meeting with Drysdale

Swan Hill recruit Lachie Joyce and under-18 graduate Zane Kneebone are among the six inclusions for the Grubbers, who have also named Cam Fowler, Ryan Cook, Ben Coote and Campbell Snookes.

Joyce is a cousin of former Grubber and current South Barwon captain Matt Caldow.

They replace Kye Annand, who has been recalled to Geelong’s VFL team, the injured quartet of Jai Hale, Jdhara Jones, Mitch Ward, and Adam Walsh, and the unavailable Harry Cashin.

The Hawks will have a debutant of their own, with under-18 captain Noah Day getting an opportunity at senior level.

Ricky Reid also returns.

Anglesea will welcome back Jordan Harrison and Dale Kerr for a mouth-watering match-up with Surf Coast Shire rivals Modewarre.

Ben Jaska is unavailable, while Jai Anderson has been omitted.
