Recently retired club legend Josh Finch has been appointed to a second stint as coach of Modewarre.
Finch, who hung up the boots at the end of the season after a club record 336 games, replaces the outgoing Mark Hovey, who announced during 2025 he would be stepping down after two years in charge.
The four-time Les Ash medallist previously coached the Warriors from 2016-19, guiding the club alongside best mate John Meesen to its maiden BFNL premiership in 2018.
“I’m very honoured that the MFNC has given me the opportunity to coach this great club again,” Finch said in a statement.
“The club means so much to me and my family. I’m especially excited and extremely motivated to help shape our football program and work with a very exciting list.
“It’s important to acknowledge the work Mark and other coaches have contributed over the last few years.”
Between coaching stints with the Warriors, the 11-time club best-and-fairest has been developing his craft with Geelong’s AFLW program.
He joined the Cats as a development coach in 2019, working his way up to becoming midfield assistant coach, working with the likes of Georgie Prespakis, Amy McDonald and Nina Morrison.
Finch was honoured at last night’s Bellarine Football Netball League presentation night with the naming of the senior football best-on-ground medal in his honour.
Modewarre is one of only three clubs to make senior coaching changes for 2026.
Portarlington last month announced Leopold great Sam Scott as its new mentor, while Barwon Heads playing assistant coach Damian McMahon will step up to share the senior role with Sam Schaller.
