Taj Wyburd has become the second Geelong VFL player to depart Ocean Grove this off-season, returning to Western Australia.

WAFL club Peel Thunder, where Wyburd played in a premiership in 2024, has confirmed via social media that the 21-year-old has headed home.

He played ten games and kicked seven goals for the wooden spoon Grubbers, appearing in their best players on eight occasions.

Wyburd made six appearances for the Cats, but missed a month of the season with an ankle injury suffered in the VFL against the GWS Giants in early May.

“I love the club and the culture it brings,” Wyburd said of his return to Peel.

“I grew up around the area and idolised it for so long, and want to create more of my own memories there!”

Wyburd’s departure follows that of fellow Cat Kye Annand to GFNL club South Barwon last week.

Ocean Grove has also lost Miller Keck and Jack Stephenson to St Albans.

However, they have signed Ryan Bongart from Central Highlands club Ballan, with Ollie Monteith returning after not playing in 2025.
