Speculation that star Torquay midfielder Paddy Hughes was headed down the coast to join Colac and District club Lorne has proven on the mark.

The Tigers have confirmed Hughes, who turns 21 tomorrow, will depart McCartney Oval and join the Dolphins, where his brother players.

K rock Football first reported Lorne’s interest in Hughes in early February.

Hughes won the Morrish Medal as Talent League best-and-fairest in 2023 after a standout season with the Geelong Falcons.

However, he went undrafted and joined Geelong’s VFL team, playing 17 games in 2024, including the Cats’ two finals that year, and finishing tied 9th in the best-and-fairest.

Hughes made nine appearances in the Hoops last year, but none after Round 16.

Torquay faces GFNL club Bell Park in a practice match tomorrow night at Hamlyn Park.

The Tigers will be the Surf Coast Suns’ first BFNL opponent when the local rivals meet at Polwarth Oval on Easter Saturday.
