After extracting itself from a tight squeeze on the weekend, Barwon Heads will get back a couple of guns for Saturday’s clash with Modewarre.
Star big man Luke Davis and Doug Bond missed the weekend win over Drysdale, in which the Seagulls came from 24 points down at half-time.
Co-coach Damian McMahon says Davis chose to be conservative with a hip knock he received during the previous week’s win over Queenscliff.
“He’s obviously a quality player, and we’ve got a long stretch of games with the way that our fixture’s panned out, where we’ve got the double break for the mid-season bye,” McMahon said.
“We’ve still got six to go before then, so we thought we’d take the cautious approach with him because he’s so important.
“So, we battled without him for a week to get him fully right to go.”
BFNL WRAP: COUTAS HOLD OFF POWER
Kallum Hinchcliffe (hamstring), Daniel Shaw (shoulder), and Kye Smith (knee) are also in line to take on the Warriors.
However, the win over the Hawks came at a cost, with Jake Whybrow (hamstring) and Ben O’Sullivan (concussion) both facing stints on the sidelines.
The Seagulls hope Whybrow will be back for the Battle of the Breaks clash with Torquay on May 23, but O’Sullivan will be missing until at least the following week’s trip to Banyul-Warri Fields for the maiden meeting with Surf Coast.
With the club’s reserve grade team unbeaten, there is no shortage of depth at APCO Cafe 24/7 Oval, as proven by the debuts of Joel Bartley and Ollie Poon.
Geelong Falcons-listed Bartley, who was available with Geelong College having the bye, had 16 disposals, of which 15 were contested.
While Poon, the son of former Torquay star Michael, gathered 14 disposals and a team-high five inside 50s.
“It’s these times where you need to call on the squad mentality to keep ticking the W box,” McMahon said.
“And on the weekend, after a bit of a slow start, it was good to get that done.
