MATCH OF THE ROUND
If 2019 is any guide, the clash between Anglesea and Barwon Heads should have fans at Ellimatte Reserve on the edge of their seats until the final siren. The Roos were the only team the Seagulls didn’t beat on their way to a drought-breaking premiership. Anglesea claimed the first meeting by four points at Howard Harmer Oval in Round 8 despite Jordan Erskine being held to just one goal in his lowest tally for the season. The Roos then completed the season double with a two-point victory at home in Round 16. Again, Erskine was well held, kicking just two goals. Former Collingwood and St Kilda defender Nathan Brown spent most of last week’s win over Drysdale in the midfield and is expected to play there again against Anglesea. It is comforting for Troy Mitchell and Mitch Herbison to know they have an AFL quality defender to send back if Erskine caught fire.
AMMOS RECRUIT CLEARED OF MAJOR DAMAGE
Scans on a knee injury suffered by Geelong Amateur recruit Bayden Fallon during last week’s win over Queenscliff have come back better than expected. Ammos have confirmed to Saturday Spotlight the Mooroopna product sustained bone bruising and some cartilage damage and could be back by the end of the month. The experienced Chris Kangars and former St Joseph’s player Jack Scarlett are both expected to take on Torquay after minor hamstring issues kept them out of last week’s team.
DRYSDALE DEBUTANTS
Youngsters Mitch Clark and Jack Taylor, and Leopold recruit Matt Gunn will make their Drysdale senior debut in the crucial clash with fellow Round 1 loser Queenscliff. Veteran duo Chris Lynch and Damian Hoare will make their first appearance of 2021. In the early game, two-time premiership captain Brent Taylor will pull on the brown and gold for the first time since departing Mortimer Oval for Thomson at the end of 2014.
