BEYOND THE BOUNDARY – AUGUST 6 – SIMON FARRELL
Barwon Heads has made a tweak to its senior coaching position, with Sam Schaller to share the role with Damian McMahon in 2026.
The Seagulls have confirmed McMahon, who joined the club after an impressive 138-game career at GFNL club St Mary’s, will step up his commitment next year.
Schaller says it’s a “natural progression” for the star midfielder.
“When I first approached Damo about coming across for this year, we spoke about coaching aspirations,” Schaller said.
“I saw, knowing him really well, the leadership capabilities that he had, and it was just about this year, seeing if that really grabbed him.
“It has, without question, and the boys love what he’s got to bring, (and) I love what he’s got to bring.”
Barwon Heads has made three changes for its must-win clash with Modewarre.
Cam O’Leary, Tom Swift and James Syddall return, replacing Mitch Herbison, who has Geelong VFL coaching commitments, Matt Beckwith, and Round 16 debutant Rupert Flanders, who has returned to the under-18s.
Torquay will have access to Geelong Falcons duo Van Rahilly and Hamish McGowan for its trip to Queenscliff.
The Tigers also get back Jack Thompson, after he was a late withdrawal from the win over Geelong Amateur last week.
They replace Tom Hooper (ankle) and Jesse Dawson (hamstring).
The Coutas have lost Tyler Monahan to an ankle injury but welcome back Ollie Skurrie.
Geelong Falcon Charlie Lawless will play his first senior game of the year when Anglesea hosts Newcomb at Ellimatta Reserve.
Lawless returns from injury for Geelong College last week, and is among four handy inclusions for the Roos as they look to consolidate fifth spot.
They also welcome back Dylan Featon, Sam Leeds and Cam Hutchinson.
Anglesea will be without defenders Tev Nofi (unavailable) and Jordan Harrison (managed), with Ethan Barry and Will Collins returning to the reserves.
The Power will welcome back Joe Clarke and have recalled Mason Andrews for Peter Gordyn and Tommy Williams.
Daniel Grose will play his first senior match in more than 12 months when ladder leader Geelong Amateur faces Ocean Grove at Ray Menzies Oval.
The Pegs, who this week confirmed they will remain in the Bellarine for at least the next two years despite comfortably leading the rolling club championship, also get back co-captain Harry Kershaw and the experienced Jai Sheahan.
Jack Lang will play his first senior game since Round 1.
They replace Tom Gorell, who was a late inclusion last week after playing in the reserves, Darby Edwards, and Jacob Edwards.
Co-coach Sam Lloyd and big man Hamish Shepheard remain sidelined.
The Grubbers have named Harry Rolfs for his first senior game since the Round 6 meeting with Geelong Amateur last year, while Adam Walsh has been recalled from the reserves.
They replace injured duo Lachie Joyce and Josh Lange.
Portarlington has lost Ash Medal contender Scott Greenhough (ankle), Teia Miles (knee) and Nick Lane (hamstring) for its final home game of the season against Drysdale at Portarlington Recreation Reserve.
The Demons have made six changes, with Joel De Bono, Zac Kos, and Jesse King omitted.
Tom Callan is among the inclusions, along with Nick Sing, Harry Sedgman, Lachie Hart, Kalan Dart, and Dylan O’Brien.
The Hawks get back captain Mitch McGuire and Andrew Crosbie, with Jack Preece recalled from the reserves.
Chris Tainton (ankle) and James Robbins (managed) are out of the team that defeated Ocean Grove last week.
