Ben Fennell has been named captain of the BFNL Team of the Year for the second time, capping another impressive season from the Drysdale midfield general.

Fennell, who later in the evening shared the Les Ash Medal with overlooked Barwon Heads star Sammy Baker, was previously skipper in 2023,

It was the same year he was denied the Ash Medal despite being the leading vote getter after accepting a reprimand for an incident late in that season.

Riley Kershaw and Sam Lloyd were named co-coaches of the team after guiding Geelong Amateur to their first minor premiership in six years.

In a reflection of the evenness of the competition, every team was represented, with no club having more than three selections; the number provided by five finalists – Ammos, Torquay, Queenscliff, Drysdale and Anglesea

Highlights included;

  • Five consecutive selections for Torquay captain Ben McNamara and Drysdale talisman Luke Breust.
  • Competition newcomers Gus Burke, Ayden Gras, Sam Lloyd, Damian McMahon and Scott Greenhough all earned a berth.
  • Queenscliff duo Caleb Whitley and Jayden McHenry were rewarded with their first selections.

Eight players returned from the 2024 team: McNamara, Breust, Lachie Smith, Matt Boag, Blake Sutterby, Jack Duke, Luke Preece, and Jordan Keras.
