Footballers fortunate enough to set foot on Torquay’s McCartney Oval are in for a treat if impressive aerial images are anything to go by.
Surf Coast Shire has released two photos of the surface following a renovation of the ground, including the cricket turf table.
As a result, Torquay Cricket Club has had a nomadic existence over the summer.
However, the timing of the upgrade has proved spot on for the town’s football club, who will gain access to the venue ahead of their first home game of the season – a Round 2 meeting with Queenscliff on April 11.
“The ground redevelopment is almost complete!” a post on the Shire’s Facebook page said.
“Final works are now underway, including sponsorship signs being installed on fences, and shelters, seating, and bollards being reinstated around the ground. The goal posts will be the final piece to go back in, just before the fences come down!
“The fences will stay up a little longer while the grass establishes itself ahead of the football season.
“But that means we need your help! Please stay off the grass so it’s in tip-top shape ahead of the first bounce of the season!”

Meanwhile, Drysdale has signed talented teenager Oliver Castro from Western Region club Spotswood.
Castro, who represented Vic Metro at last year’s under-16 National Championships, made his Talent League debut for the Western Jets late last season.
The 16-year-old (he turns 17 in June) is again listed with the Jets.
However, he is sidelined with a back issue and unlikely to be seen until the middle of the season.
