A pair of rucks have shared the Don Cole Medal as Bellarine reserve grade best-and-fairest.
Newcomb’s Pat McGinley and Anglesea’s Liam Cruickshank finished tied on 16 votes to end lengthy droughts in the award for both clubs.
In a strong finish to the season by the Roos’ twos, Cruickshank polled three best-on-grounds in the final five rounds, including rounds 17 and 18, to make up a six-vote gap on McGinley.
McGinley didn’t poll in the loss to Anglesea in Round 17 and was a late inclusion in Newcomb’s senior team for the upset win over Geelong Amateur the following week.
It was one of seven appearances at senior level for McGinley this year.
Ammos’ Cody Diana finished third on 15 votes, falling just short of making it a three-way tie after polling two votes in the final round win over the Power.
Queenscliff’s Dylan Whitley finished fourth on 14 votes, with Modewarre’s Magnus Howells (13) rounding out the top five after crossing from GFNL club Newtown & Chilwell.
McGinley was the first Newcomb player to claim the Cole Medal since Craig Pearce in 2001, with Craig Leeman Anglesea’s last winner the following year.
