Clubs to meet on football and netball restructure

Geelong and Bellarine clubs will be asked to give their position on the planned shakeup of football and netball in the region at a special meeting.

Presidents of the 22 clubs will meet with AFL Barwon’s executive and commission members tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

AFL Barwon politely declined to comment on the meeting but did confirm it would take place and that clubs would be asked to provide feedback

However, it also confirmed no binding vote on the restructure would be held.

AFL Barwon and club engagement with the media and developing a timeline on the issue will also be discussed.

The most recent document presented to clubs in December proposes a three-divisional model featuring a ten-team premier league, a ten-team division one and an eight-team division two to be introduced as soon as 2025.

The proposal has received lukewarm public support from clubs. However, AFL Barwon boss Ed Wilson told K rock Football on December 21 that private feedback is more positive.

Consultation with clubs has been ongoing, with AFL Barwon keen to announce whether the restructuring will advance by the start of the Bellarine season on Good Friday (March 29).
