THOMSON and Corio will be playing off for a new piece of silverware in their Round 2 GDFNL clash on Saturday, with the clubs coming together to help promote the fixture at Thomson Rec Reserve.

Major sponsor of the Tigers – Scale Facilitation will hold naming rights to the new trophy, with its affiliate company Recharge Industries being a major sponsor of Corio.

Thomson Sponsorship Coordinator Michael Graham said the initiative came about as a way to help the two “battling” clubs have a better standing in their community.

Graham said the relationship between the clubs and sponsors presented an opportunity to create more of an event and atmosphere around the fixture.

“We sort of see it as a really good opportunity to really get around each other and really try and promote both clubs,” he said.

“They have been a little stuck in the past and this can hopefully get them up and about and have a bit of fun.

“What we’re also going to offer Corio too, is later in the year when they host, we can return the favour.

“Possibly play off for a Recharge Industries cup or something like that and hopefully get around them and create and event at their home ground too.

“We’re just trying to keep that synergy going and just find ways we can help each other.”

Graham said the main goal was to attract a big crowd to the fixture, to help the sides experience some time in the limelight.

“We’re both little clubs compared to all the other clubs in our areas.

“So everyone’s really jumped on board with it

“It’s a terrific opportunity just to drive this forward.”

Graham said he’s expecting the crowd to be treated to a good match of senior footy.

The Tigers come away with a solid 41-point win in Round 1 against North Geelong, while the improved Devils took it up to Inverleigh, going down by 19 points.

“We’re expecting it to be very, very tight.

“Corio have got some amazing players this year, the way they’ve come out of the gates, they’ve been hugely competitive.

“We were lucky enough to get up on our round one game a couple of weeks ago.
