GEELONG District Football Netball League is in a healthy state coming up to the mid-point of the season, according to GDFNL President Neville Whitely.
Following a bye for the King’s Birthday weekend, Round 9 comes up this weekend with the Seniors top-five wide open.
Thomson currently sits on top of the ladder, with only one loss from the eight rounds, followed by Bell Post Hill, East Geelong and Bannockburn, all with six wins.
“The season’s going really well, actually,” Whitely said.
“We’ve got eight or nine clubs that are competitive.”
Inverleigh and Werribee Centrals follow on five wins apiece, while Geelong West Giants and Winchelsea both have three wins.
The long-shot for the final five would be Corio, currently with three wins, as they begin to make progress after being the also-rans only a couple of years ago.
“It’s very interesting and very competitive towards the final five,” Whitely said.
“Any of those nine clubs could still make the five.”
Thomson takes on third-placed East Geelong this Saturday at Richmond Oval in what could be a tight contest.
