Corio midfielder Jack Hall has labelled his appointment as co-captain of Corio as “humbling” ahead of Saturday’s Round 1 clash with East Geelong at Shell Reserve.

Hall, a Devils junior, will share the role with former co-coach Joel Bennett, whose now-departed brother Toby held the role in 2025.

He’s played 54 consecutive games since returning from a stint at GFNL club Bell Park, including representing the GDFNL at interleague level last year.

“I’m really excited to do it,” he said.

“Joel’s going to be a good person to lean on. Obviously, he’s done it before, and he’s got a wealth of experience.

“I’m just really excited. I can’t wait to take it on.”

Corio enters the 2026 season looking to climb off the bottom of the ladder.

The Devils posted three wins in Bennett’s final year as coach, including twice against beaten elimination finalist Anakie.

He’s been replaced by the combination of Ross Gemmill and former assistant Adam Bell.

“It’s been a good mix,” Hall said.

“Ross is probably more of your tactician, where Bally’s probably more of your motivator… but they’re working well together.”

At Thomson, which hosts Inverleigh to start the new season, big man Jordan Camm has replaced veteran Sam Jacka as captain.

Camm, 26, has played 82 senior games and was part of the Tigers’ 2024 premiership team.

“It’s good to feel like you’ve. earned it,” he said.

“It’s good to feel like you can represent your team, and the people around you have faith in you to do the right thing.

“It also puts a lot on your shoulders, too. You feel like you’ve got a lot of commitment you’ve got to hold up to, and it’s probably led me to have a pretty good pre-season, I think.

“I really value it, honestly.”

And at North Geelong, star midfielder Tom Schwennesen has joined brother Zac as co-captain, with the Magpies – who are celebrating their 150th anniversary to start their quest for consecutive flags for the first time since 1993 with a trip to Banockburn.

“With the history of the club and doing it with my brother, it means that little bit extra,” he said.

“It’s already a massive year for us; (a) huge honour.
