BEYOND THE BOUNDARY – APRIL 15

Dylan Jose has ruled out undergoing surgery on the third ruptured anterior cruciate ligament of his career, with the Thomson veteran hoping rehab will help him get back for some late-season games alongside good mate Devon Smith.

Jose had his sights set on enjoying a final year of football with the former GWS Giants and Essendon star, but that all came crashing down in an intra-club practice match on April 1.

“I just went up for a mark, and it was a bit unstable,” the 32-year-old said.

“I came off for a bit, went back out, thought it was okay, but it gave way again, and I just took the cautious route and iced it up and called it a night.

“I had plans to play Round 1, but went in for a scan on Friday, and they came back with a confirmed rupture in my left knee.

“I think maybe deep down. I possibly knew, and maybe thought, that one day it would happen again.

“But, yeah, a bit of a shock, I would say.”

After putting in an impressive pre-season, the former Lara captain says he was “feeling great” heading into the new season.

“I’m playing district footy at nearly 33, so I don’t think I’ll be getting surgery to play again,” Jose said.

“But, I will rehab it for the next three months with an aim to get back for a couple of games.

“It’ll hold me in good stead either way.

“We’ll just assess it at the end of the year. Hopefully, I can kick another goal with Dev and then that’ll be it.”

Jose sat alongside Tigers coach Paul Lynch during Saturday’s 37-point loss to Inverleigh to open their 2026 campaign.

“The scoreboard might have looked a bit further away than what the game looked like in person,” he said.

“It was different sitting next to Lynchy; it’s the first time I’ve done that.

“I suppose there’ll be a few more games up next to him.”
