Speculation GDFNL club Thomson was set to lure Leopold premiership ruckman Trent West out of retirement has been put to bed by Tigers coach Paul Lynch.

Lynch confirmed last year’s grand finalists spoke with the 36-year-old about pulling on the boots again.

However, the experienced mentor told K rock’s Beyond the Boundary podcast that West has rejected the offer to play at Thomson.

“I think Westy’s just got a bit too much going on in his life,” Lynch said. “He’s coaching the under-9s over at Leopold, and his wife’s playing netball there, and his kids have just started after-school sport.

“So, I think it was always going to be hard for him.

“I think he liked the idea of still having a bit of a runaround big Westy, because he does love playing footy.

“But, the Thomson thing might have been a bit too hard for him because I know he’s not that sort of fella that just wants to turn up (on) Saturday and play.

“He’s one of the nicest blokes you’ll meet in footy, Westy, and I think that felt a bit awkward for him.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he stepped out for Leopold, but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
