North Geelong is mourning the death of one its greatest ever following Reg Dean’s death at 95.
Dean, who pulled on the black and white on 306 occasions at senior level, was a member of the club’s seven consecutive Evelyn Hurst premierships from 1949-55 when it was the leading competition in the region.
An inaugural inductee into the club’s Hall of Fame in 2014, he was also part of the teams in which North was runner-up in 1947, 48 and 59.
One of four brothers to represent the club, Dean won the Magpies’ best-and-farest in 1952.
Dean was at the club earlier this month when the Dean Family was named North Geelong’s No.1 ticket holder at the Magpies’ season launch.
Meanwhile, Lara has also farewelled one of its greatest with the passing of Jimmy Mathieson.
Known at the Cats as ‘Shirty’, he played 282 games, featuring in the 1952 Woolworth Cup premiership and captain-coach of the 1965 team that went through the season undefeated to be crowned champions.
Mathieson won the 1958 best-and-fairest and was inducted into Lara’s Hall of Fame in 2014.
