GDFNL clubs will be on a par with the Bellarine’s strongest outfits when it comes to total player payments in 2026 after voting to lift their salary cap.
They will be able to spend up to $95,000, the same as last year’s BFNL finalists and sixth-placed Barwon Heads, up $10,000 from the $85,000 limit in place for the 2025 season.
The salary cap was $75,000
It is the first significant decision of Daryl Jarvis’ presidency, with the long-serving treasurer assuming the top job at last week’s AGM, replacing Neville Whitley, who stood down after 41 years.
He acknowledges that not all clubs will be able to pay the allowable amount.
“I think some of them mightn’t be (able to), but it becomes a bit of a range,” he told K rock Football’s Beyond the Boundary podcast.
“Where our clubs are looking for players, and if they’ve got that little bit extra, then they might be able to attract that player from the Bellarine or the GFL.
“They still might be a fair bit under their salary cap, but it gives them that little bit extra.”
