The GDFNL has confirmed that an administrative error by the league caused the Belmont Lions to exceed their player points cap in the Round 1 win over Anakie.

K rock Football understands Lions recruit Christian Farchione was assessed by the GDFNL as being a three-point player late last week.

However, on further review, he was found to be a four-pointer, having come from Banyule in Melbourne’s Northern league, where he last played in 2024.

This wasn’t communicated to the Lions, who were able to lodge their team on PlayHQ as being at their 40-point limit on match-day.

When the adjustment was confirmed post-match, PlayHQ displayed the Lions at 41 points, and a screenshot of the discrepancy spread quickly across the local football community.

It is believed Anakie has accepted the GDFNL explanation and won’t pursue the matter.
