Anakie coach Jayke Mawson has become the first senior coach suspended since AFL Barwon’s Match Review Panel was introduced a decade ago.

It follows an incident after the Roos’ GDFNL reserve grade loss to the Belmont Lions at Winer Reserve on Saturday.

Anakie has confirmed the MRP offered Mawson a two-match suspension reduced to one with an early guilty plea after being charged with low-level abuse, which the club has accepted

K rock Football understands Mawson directed comments at Belmont Lions’ club umpire Rhett Smith, who is also the club’s co-president.

“The Anakie Football Netball Club is working with all relevant parties to resolve the matter,” a statement provided to K rock Football said.

“Adhering to the AFL’s Code of Conduct demonstrates a commitment to maintaining the integrity and values of the sport.

“By communicating and addressing the incident, the club is taking important steps toward accountability and ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all involved.”

It is understood the scoreboard at the final siren showed a draw between the two teams before being adjusted by the goal umpires to show a one-point victory for the Lions.

Under AFL Victoria rules, Mawson cannot communicate with any football official or enter the changerooms or the field of play during this Saturday’s clash with Bell Post Hill at Anakie Reserve.

It is believed assistant coach Ry Endrei will take the reins in Mawson’s absence.

Meanwhile, Mawson’s brother Jesse will also be missing against the Panthers after accepting a one-week suspension with an early guilty plea for striking Belmont Lions co-coach Brent Vermeulen during the second quarter of Anakie’s loss.

However, Roos co-captain Billy Goodwin is right to play after accepting a reprimand with his early guilty plea for rough conduct on Lion Shaun McNamara.

At Inverleight, Kieran McNallay’s taken the reprimand on offer for striking Thomson’s Tom Major in the second term of the Hawk’s narrow loss to the Tigers.

In the GFNL, Lara veteran Dylan Jose will play against Newtown & Chilwell after taking the reprimand offered for a swinging arm on Leopold’s Jett Matthews in the second quarter of the Cats’ loss at Bisinella Oval.

Teammate Mitch Day had no case to answer after being looked at for a potential strike on Lions defender Trent Thompson.

Geelong West duo Tanner Lovell (umpire contact) and Riley Moore, who was looked at for contact with Bell Park’s Eli Pearce, are both in the clear, as is Dragon Jake Reid for allegedly striking Giants forward Lachie Horniblow.
