Anakie and North Shore have both paid tribute to David Walmsley following his sudden death yesterday at the age of 61.

Walmsley was a premiership player in 1991 and senior captain in 1993 with the Roos.

He also won a reserves best-and-fairest at the back end of his career in 2004.

“We send our love and condolences to David’s wife Lynette, mother Maureen and children Brittany, Caitlyn and Connor and extended family,” Anakie wrote on Facebook.

More recently, he was a popular figure at North Shore, where son Connor plays football and daughter Brittany graces the netball court in blue and gold.

“A true legend, a man who could walk into our club and light up the room,” the Seagulls said.

“A husband, a son, a father and a grandfather, and Connor and Brittany’s biggest supporter as they proudly wore the blue and gold every week.”

Walmsley was also a greyhound owner who served as vice-chair of the Geelong Greyhound Racing Club.
