Anakie star Luke Dahlhaus has been named captain of a star-studded GDFNL Team of the Year.

The former Western Bulldogs and Geelong midfielder had another impressive season with the Roos, guiding them to the finals for the first time in 27 years.

Dahlhaus was among a trio of Roos honoured, with Wayne Tyquin medallist Andrew Boseley and GDFNL representative Oscar Barter also selected in the final 22.

The Roos were one of four clubs to have three players included, joining Werribee Centrals preliminary final combatants East Geelong and Bell Post Hill.

Grand final-bound North Geelong, beaten semi-finalists Belmont Lions, and sixth-placed Thomson each had two.

Magpies mentor Peter Riccardi was named coach after lifting the club from a narrow finals miss in 2024 to a third-placed finish in this year’s home-and-away season.

Similar to the Bellarine Team of the Year announced last week, the evenness of the competition is reflected in all but one club being represented, with Winchelsea missing out on having a player selected.

Returning from last year’s team are Dahlhaus and Barter, Corio best-and-fairest Toby Bennett, Werribee Centrals duo Cam Saliba and Michael Culliver, East Geelong skipper John McIntyre, Belmont Lions spearhead Ben Evans, and Thomson veteran Billie Smedts.
