Tributes flow after passing of local footy legend

Tributes are flowing for local footy legend Dick Philpott after he passed away over the weekend.

Dick, a life member of the North Geelong Football and Netball Club, served as its president for a decade from 1987-1996, which included four senior football premierships.

He served a lengthy stint on the board of Buckleys and was a member of the inaugural AFL Barwon commission, Dick also was host of the former GDFNL football show on Channel 31 and contributor to local radio, including on K rock.

Dick’s ‘larger than life’ personality and commitment to leading local football coverage, lure AFL great and commentary legend Rex Hunt to be the club’s number one ticket holder.

“(Dick’s) going to leave a massive hole in ‘Geelongs Fabulous Magpies’ family,” a post on the North Geelong Football and Netball Club page read.

“Our heartfelt condolences are with Romey and family at this very sad time.”
