Local football fans could have certainty around this year’s Geelong and Bellarine finals venue before the respective competitions’ new seasons even start.

AFL Barwon has called for expressions of interest from clubs keen to have their venues considered for finals action, with new CEO Kate Patterson targeting the governing body’s season launch on March 29 for an announcement.

Patterson says there have been discussions with Kardinia Park Stadium Trust CEO Gerard Griffin and the Geelong Football Club on a long-term agreement to use GMHBA Stadium for the GFNL decider.

“We’ve been working with Gerard’s team, and also with Geelong Footy Club, on what a longer-term, firm agreement might look like,” Patterson told K rock Football’s Beyond the Boundary podcast.

“(We’re) very keen to get something locked in.

“And ideally… our hope is to announce venues at the upcoming season launch (on March 29).

“So, we’d be looking at announcing finals venues nice and early.”
