Two-time St Mary’s premiership player Matt Copley has announced his retirement.
The Saints said Copley, who was restricted to 85 games in an injury and Covid-interrupted nine seasons of senior football, was planning to have this year off.
However, the 27-year-old told K rock Football’s Beyond the Boundary podcast last year’s grand final win over St Joseph’s was the ideal end to his career.
“Now I’ve had a bit of time to think about it, yeah, I would say retirement, I think, at this point,” Copley said.
“Just probably putting the body first and putting the health first.
“(I’ve) obviously had a handful of injuries and surgeries, so I just thought, now’s the time to go out on a bit of a high.”
