Sidelined St Mary’s spearhead Sam Dobson may have played his last game for the Saints after being appointed coach of home club Koroit.

The star forward, who suffered a fractured collarbone in last week’s win over North Shore, was unveiled as co-coach of the Hampden League for 2025 powerhouse alongside Chris McLaren tonight (Friday).

Dobson, who has kicked 198 goals from 56 games in two stints at Anthony Costa Oval, is a four-time premiership player at Koroit.

“Koroit has always been my home club, and while I have enjoyed my second stint at St Mary’s it was always my intention to return home,” Dobson said in a statement.

“I have always wanted to coach, and the time is right. I’ve missed Koroit, the players and teammates, and it’s great to be returning.

“I’m looking forward to sharing the role with Chris and excited about the future at Koroit. It’s great to see so many young players coming through, and there’s a great buzz around the club.”

Dobson, who kicked 44 goals from 31 games at VFL level with Geelong, is expected to miss up to six weeks.

If he doesn’t return earlier, he would need St Mary’s to reach at least a preliminary final for him to pull on the navy blue and green again.
