BELL PARK hosts Leopold at Hamlyn Park in what’s expected to be a tight GFNL clash between two sides looking to stamp their finals credentials.
The Dragons bounced back after four straight losses last week in a gritty 21-point win over Geelong West but head into the match with some injury clouds.
Kye Edwards picked up an ankle injury in the Round 8 win, Toby Mahony continues to deal with a knee issue and Wilson Mack finished the match sore.
“We were pretty wounded, but I said to the guys that’s probably what your body needs to feel like after winning a game at this level,” Coach James Saker told K rock Football post-game.
Saker was impressed with how his team bounced back following a lean run.
“The really pleasing thing for me is just reward for consistency of a process,” he said.
“We’ve had some tough results in the last month but we’ve reviewed them and trained strongly to fix some deficiencies.”
Saker said this weekend’s clash presents a great challenge.
Leopold’s coming off a dominant win against North Shore, with the Lions looking to break into the top five, currently sitting outside on percentage.
“We watched a fair it of their stuff against the Giants, they’re very well drilled,” Saker said.
“They play a very good system and are obviously well coached,” he said.
“We’re just looking forward to a challenge, we’re just looking forward to another challenge, we get to be four and four which is important for us.
“Before the game (last week) we were talking about how we’re still flickering with a finals hope.
“We’re not getting carried away with ourselves that’s for sure, every week’s a challenge in this competition I’m learning very quickly.”
