Matt McMahon’s glittering career will add another accolade on Saturday when he becomes just the second player in Newtown & Chilwell history to play 250 senior games.

The three-time Mathieson medallist and five-time Eagles’ best-and-fairest will reach a milestone rarely registered in the GFNL when he runs out against Lara at Elderslie Reserve.

However, the 34-year-old has indicated there are no more than 16 games left in his career despite the lure of breaking Craig Morrissy’s long-standing club record of 271 matches sometime in 2025.

“I haven’t come to any decision on that,” McMahon told K rock’s Beyond the Boundary when asked if he was planning retirement at the end of this season.

“But as you get older, it gets harder to get up for games.

“Probably something I’ve always been able to do is play through injuries – and at times when you probably shouldn’t have.

“But one thing I have noticed is, those knocks and bruises along the way end up coming back to bite you the older you get.

“We’ll cross that bridge at the end of the year, but probably more likely than not.”
