Newtown & Chilwell skipper Luke Maddock hasn’t ruled out playing a role in the club’s quest for a first GFNL senior premiership in 39 years as he continues his recovery from damage to both knees.
The key defender tore the medial collateral ligament in his knees in a marking contest in a win over Colac on June 21.
Both legs are in braces, but Maddock remains hopeful he will feature in the Eagles’ first finals series under new coach Steve Johnson.
“I’ve been around footy a long time; I’ve been playing footy for 20 years, so you’ve got to expect that you’re going to get the rough end of the stick every now and then,” he told K rock Football before Saturday’s win over South Barwon.
“The back end of last year, I started to get a bit of OP (osteitis pubis), (and) tried to push through it a fair bit, just the way the team was going.
“And then this year as well, just an ankle early in the year.
“Not to harp on the injuries, but I reckon I’ve had a really good run up until probably halfway through last year.
“If it’s not to be, it’s not to be. It’s not the end of the world, but, gee, I’d love to be playing out there.
“So, yeah, I’m doing everything I can.”
