Young Leopold big man Xavier Hayter has claimed the Jim & Bill Allthorpe Medal as GFNL reserve grade best-and-fairest.
Hayter, who made his senior debut early in the season, finished on 18 votes, two clear of 2024 runner-up, Newtown & Chilwell’s Francesco Posterino, St Joseph’s Ryan Connolly, and Henry Cook from St Mary’s.
When voting went live after Round 14, Hayter, Posterino, and Cook shared the lead on 13 votes, with Connolly a vote further back on 12.
The leading trio all attracted three votes in Round 15 to move to 16 votes, with Connolly staying in touch with two votes in Round 16
Connolly and Posterino didn’t play in Round 17, Cook failed to attract a vote, opening the door for Hayter to take the lead with two votes from a four-goal performance against North Shore.
Only Cook could overtake Hayter in the final round, with Posterino again sidelined, but didn’t poll.
Hayter is the fifth Leopold player to win the Allthorpe Medal, joining Kyle Bumpstead, Hamish Easton, Adam Bond and Scott McLeod.
