Joint Mathieson medallist Fraser Fort will make his first appearance of the 2024 season in tomorrow’s (Thursday’s) blockbuster Anzac Day clash between South Barwon and St Joseph’s at Drew Oval.

Captain Matt Caldow, who shared the GFNL best-and-fairest with Fort, confirmed on K rock’s Beyond the Boundary podcast that Fort will line up against Joeys.

He says the veteran is being eased into the season.

“He’s grumpy at the best of times; we’re just trying to get him motivated,” Caldow joked.

For Caldow, it will be his fifth Anzac Day appearance.

“It’s awesome to play a home-and-away game that feels like a final,” he said.

“The intensity, the crowd, the two great clubs playing against one another – it is hard to prepare for.

“I think you get experienced (in handling it) each time you do it, and to embrace that challenge.”

Fraser Duryea will return from illness after missing last week’s narrow win over Lara, while Todd White is also in the mix, depending on Geelong VFL commitments.

Geelong Falcons graduate Tom Bartlett is listed on the teamsheet wearing White’s no.28, with the Modewarre product possibly debuting.

“They hadn’t finalised (the team) when we spoke last night,” Caldow said.
