Friday night lights for Shories and Towners

Friday night football will return to the GFNL for the first time in more than 20 years, with North Shore to meet Newtown & Chilwell to open the Anzac Day round.

Windsor Park, home to a popular pre-season night series in the 1990s, will host the April 24 clash.

The foundation clubs were originally scheduled to play on Sunday, April 26, but have agreed to bring the Round 2 meeting forward, with the first bounce at 8:10 pm.

Two matches – the traditional clash between St Joseph’s and South Barwon and the annual Anzac match-up between Grovedale and Lara – will be played on the Saturday.

On Sunday, St Mary’s will unfurl its seventh GFNL premiership flag when it hosts Bell Park at Anthony Costa Oval, Geelong West and St Albans do battle at West Oval, Leopold takes on Colac at Memorial Park.

Meanwhile, in other confirmed fixture changes;

  • St Mary’s and St Joseph’s will meet for the first time since last year’s grand final in a night game in Round 4 (Saturday, May 9), with first bounce at 6:00 pm.
  • The Saints have agreed to Colac’s request to bring forward their Round 7 meeting at Central Reserve to the week before Round 1 (Saturday, April 11), with a start time of 4:30 pm.

Earlier this month, adjustments to the Bellarine fixture were announced.
