Geelong West’s Josh Dwyer will roll the dice at the AFL Barwon Tribunal tomorrow (Wednesday) night after choosing to challenge a suspension offer for an incident in Saturday’s big win over Lara.

The Giant was cited by the Match Review Panel for a bump on Lara co-captain Aaron Stone late in the first quarter of the clash at West Oval.

The incident has been assessed as careless conduct, high contact, and high impact, drawing a three-match sanction.

Dwyer, who has returned to action after missing the 2024 season, could have accepted a two-match ban with an early guilty plea.

Footage of the incident shows Dwyer give a handball to teammate Heath Shaw before providing a shepherd, for which the Giant received a free kick.

In the GDFNL, Geelong West veteran Matt Sondergeld has accepted a two-match suspension for a dangerous tackle on North Geelong’s Cooper Vaughan during the clash played before the GFNL match at West Oval.

The third-quarter incident, which has resulted in Vaughan entering the 21-day concussion protocol, was assessed as careless conduct, high contact, and high impact, attracting a three-match ban.

However, the early guilty plea will see Sondergeld miss games against Werribee Centrals and Belmont Lions before being free to return for the pre-bye meeting with Bell Post Hill.

Assessed as careless conduct, high impact, and low impact, a one-match suspension was reduced to a reprimand with an early guilty plea.
