Colac will go into tomorrow’s GFNL preliminary final against St Mary’s without Seb Ross, but remain hopeful their playing co-coach will be right if they advance to next week’s grand final
The two-time St Kilda best-and-fairest brought himself from the ground during the second quarter of the second semi-final loss to St Joseph’s
Ross has been limited to 11 of a possible 20 matches in his first season at Central Reserve.
Co-coach Jason Armistead says the 32-year-old would have played on had last week not been a double-chance encounter.
“We were hoping to win, which would have been better,” Armistead said.
“But, it was just about him not doing any more damage.”
AT SELECTION – PRELIMINARY FINAL
Colac will welcome back Tom Rienets and Josh Garner, after both missed last week.
Rienets has overcome a virus, with Garner sidelined with a facial injury suffered at training with Geelong ahead of the Premier Cricket season.
The Tigers won the lone meeting with the Saints during the home-and-away season by 52 points in Round 8, with second semi-final inclusion Luke Hillman kicking five goals.
“We touched a little bit on it last night at training,” Armistead said.
“We probably caught them a bit off guard as well because we weren’t flying at the time, and they probably were.
“The situation’s different now, but hopefully we can do something similar tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, St Mary’s 2019 grand final hero Nick Connors will undergo a fitness test tomorrow morning on a knee injury suffered during Sunday’s first semi-final win over Newtown & Chilwell.
Playing assistant coach Ryan Pendlebury will return from an ankle injury in a move that further strengthens the Saints’ defence.
