Lara has received a welcome boost to start its off-season, with star midfielder Darby Henderson committing to the GFNL battler for next year.

The former Williamstown VFL player proved to be a prolific ball-winner despite the Cats’ lone win of the season coming in the final round clash against fellow strugglers North Shore.

Henderson, who has battled concussions during his playing career, missed three games in the second half of the season following an incident in the Round 11 loss to St Abans.

Across 15 games, he averaged 45.3 disposals, passing 50 on six occasions, with 60 his season-best against St Joseph’s in Round 16.

Henderson’s efforts should earn him GFNL Team of the Year selection, with all eyes on how he polls in the Mathieson Medal later this month.

His dad, Brett, will continue as the coach of Lara. 2026 is the second year of a three-year contract at the Snakepit.

Last week, 2022 GFNL Rookie of the Year Connor Linehan-Cunningham was announced as returning to GDFNL club Werribee Centrals after four seasons with the Cats.
