The guernsey worn by Newtown Football Club prior to its merger with Chilwell in the 1930s has provided the inspiration for Newtown & Chilwell’s clash strip, which it will wear for the first time against St Joseph’s on Sunday.
The Newtown club, formed in 1874, wore a design similar to Geelong’s, featuring navy blue and white hoops, before combining with Chilwell in the early 1930s due to a combination of financial difficulties and a player shortage.

The newly merged club adopted the Essendon-style design worn by Chilwell at the time.
The clash strip will be worn with white shorts and navy blue and white hooped socks by the ‘Towners seniors, reserves and under-18s when playing away against St Albans, Grovedale and Colac.
