NEWTOWN & Chilwell fears the worst after West Australian recruit Angus McKay suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s practice match against Uni Blues at Elderslie Reserve.
The 195cm key forward, who coach Damien McMahon labelled a clone of former Eagle Timm House after signing with the club late last year, was making just his second appearance for the club.
“He’s got a suspected ACL (anterior cruciate ligament),” McMahon told K rock Football’s Coaches Catch-up.
“He’s gone home to WA on the weekend, and he’ll have scans, and, hopefully, it’s not as bad a first thought.
“But, at this stage, it’s not looking positive.
McMahon confirmed the injury is to the same knee that has previously undergone a reconstruction.
“(It was) a really basic incident – a tackle on the boundary line,” McMahon said. “(He) went down and twisted, and that was the end of it.
“The vision didn’t pick it up, but it was one of those incidents.
“He’s had an ACL before on the same knee, so it was a reoccurrence of what had happened previously.”

McKay’s injury comes as fellow Eagles Alex Cincotta and Jy Lane are on the comeback trail from their own knee reconstructions.
“We’re all pretty devastated to lose him in the way we did, but we know that he’s here for three years, minimum, as a Marcus Oldham (College) student,” McMahon said.
“So, he’ll get himself back on track, and, hopefully, we’ll see him play some good footy in 2022.”
Newtown & Chilwell will have a final practice match against fellow GFL club Geelong West at Elderslie Reserve on April 10 before opening its season at home to Leopold the following week.
