After successfully hosting Geelong Football Netball League’s grand final day in 2023, Leopold has put its hand up to host this year’s Bellarine decider.

With GMHBA Stadium confirmed as the home of the GFNL’s biggest day for 2024, first-year president Aaron Verlin says the Lions are interested in hosting the BFNL’s marquee event.

“Yeah, absolutely. We’re really keen to see if we can put in an expression of interest,” Verlin told krockfootball.live.

“Why wouldn’t we want to showcase this great facility?”

The last two BFNL grand finals have been played at Newcomb’s Grinter Reserve, and K rock Football understands the Power are keen to do it again.

Leopold, which hosted eight Bellarine grand finals during its time in the competition, also hosted GFNL preliminary final day in 2023 after the opening two weeks were played at West Oval.

On grand final day, more than 10,000 people were estimated to have flowed through the gates, with a peak crowd of 8,000 inside the venue during the senior football match between the Lions and South Barwon.

AFL Barwon chair Michelle Gerdtz says with GMHBA Stadium locked away for the GFNL’s grand finals, discussions with clubs interested in hosting all other Geelong and Bellarine league finals will start shortly.

“Everything’s on the table, and that’s why we need to have those discussions as early as possible so everyone knows,” she said.
