North Melbourne - Majak Daw (Bradley Kanaris)

Lara has landed what is likely to be the GFNL’s highest-profile recruit for 2025 with the signing of former North Melbourne big man Majak Daw.

Daw, who played 54 games for the Kangaroos before ending his AFL career on Melbourne’s list, is the Cats’ second big signing in as many days following the arrival of new coach Brett Henderson’s son Darby.

The 195cm 33-year-old spent two years with Northern League club North Heidelberg following his delisting by the Demons, including kicking 58 goals last year.

Daw spent this year in the Essendon and District League with Deer Park, where kicked 22 goals from six games.

Coach Brett Henderson says a link with Lara recruiter Nathan Evans has helped lure Daw to Bisinella Oval.

”They’ve got a really solid relationship that dates back a number of years,” Henderson said.

“They’ve worked closely together on different projects, and he mentioned Maj’s name last week.

“Here we are; he’s signed, sealed and delivered, and we’re looking forward to what he brings.”

The signing of Daw is further indication of Henderson’s desire to lift Lara out of the GFNL cellar.

”We’ve got a really positive vibe going at the moment,” Henderson said.

”We’re really keen to continue that, and, obviously, Majak adds to that vibe.

”195cm and the flexibility to play a number of positions, is going to be a real plus for us.

”I’ve said to a number of boys I’ve spoken to, ‘I’ve got no interest in winning three games next year’.

”We’ve got to start pushing up the ladder and becoming a really competitive outfit, and this all helps.”
