North Shore footballer Joseph Salmon will immediately step away from the game following a mutual decision between him and the club.

Salmon is facing more than 30 domestic violence-related charges and will reappear in a Darwin Court next month.

The Northern Territory product has played the opening two rounds of the season with the Seagulls.

In a statement provided to K rock Football, North Shore said: “This decision has been made with careful consideration of the needs, interests and wellbeing of all parties involved.

“The club respects the legal process and cannot comment on Joseph’s ongoing legal proceedings,” the statement continued.

“We acknowledge the public’s concerns, and the club has sought to address them, with the safety and wellbeing of all players, volunteers, members, and supporters being the club’s top priority.”

North Shore says it has been hampered by the lack of protocols for such situations.

“Despite seeking advice from the relevant authority, there appears to be no established guidelines or policies to reference in such situations, and clubs are left to navigate through these matters independently,” the statement said.

“The club is supported by dedicated volunteers who are all working together for the betterment of their community.

“The Club has a long and positive history in the surrounding area and will continue to strive to provide a safe, inclusive, and diverse environment for everyone.”

North Shore was most recently in the spotlight for using Salmon on its social media to promote an upcoming Ladies’ Day, which was subsequently removed.

“The club urges all supporters to unite for Ladies Day and celebrate the incredible women who make remarkable contributions to the club and the local community,” the statement concluded.
