Colac has suffered a blow heading into the 2026 GFNL season with the departure of captain Jack Melican.

Tigers officials have confirmed to K rock Football that Melican, arguably the competition’s most reliable defender of the last decade, is on the move to Queensland, with QAFL club Morningside his likely destination.

Since arriving at Central Reserve from Colac and District club Birregurra ahead of the 2017 season, Melican has played 141 senior games and has been named twice in the GFNL Team of the Year.

He is the second confirmed departure from the Tigers, who have also lost Cooper Hayes to Old Geelong in the VAFA.

Geelong West star Ethan Liddle and talented youngster Jack Fish (Western Eagles) are the new faces announced by the club.

Likely contenders for the Colac captaincy are key forward Adam Garner, big man Zach Zdybel, and hard-as-nails midfielder Jarrod Walters.
