Geelong West has confirmed 2023 club leading goalkicker Phil Moimoi will play with the club this year.

The talented forward, who kicked 30 goals for the Giants, has put pen to paper, according to the club’s Facebook page.

Geelong West coach Greg Mellor told K rock Football on December 11 that Moimoi was chasing a spot on the Sydney Swans’ VFL list.

Moimoi has put pen to paper with Sydney, where he has featured in match simulation with the Swans’ AFL list, and will commute to Geelong for games.

“Sydney is very keen for us to be his second club,” Mellor said late last year.

“We’ll work through what that looks like (in terms of travel).”

The re-signing of Moimoi, who spent last year on the list of VFL club Sandringham, is further good news for the club as they look to play finals as the Giants for the first time.

The club’s forerunner, Geelong West-St Peter’s made its last finals appearance in 2008, eight years before the alignment with Geelong West Sporting Club.

Logan Taylor has returned from a stint with WAFL club South Fremantle, while Frazer Robb (Koroit), Mac Scoullar (GWV Rebels/Ballarat) and Jake Smith (Western Jets) loom as handy additions.

The Giants have practice matches against Modewarre on March 16 and Doutta Stars on April 6 before travelling to Leopold on April 13 for an opening round meeting with reigning premier Leopold.
