Talented Geelong West midfielder Ethan Liddle has made a shock move to GFNL rivals Colac.
The Tigers have confirmed to K rock Football that the 28-year-old, who is training with Geelong’s VFL squad, will join last season’s preliminary finalists.
“Known for his explosive speed, exceptional endurance, and outstanding ball-winning ability, Ethan is currently training in the Geelong VFL pre-season,” a post on Colac’s Facebook page said.
“His talent and work ethic will be a fantastic complement to our group.”
From Alice Springs, Liddle had two stints with the Giants after being part of a massive Australia-wide recruiting spree by former coach Andy Viola ahead of the 2016 season.
He spent two years with West before returning to the Northern Territory and representing the NT Thunder in the now-defunct NEAFL in 2019.
Liddle returned to the Giants post-COVID, taking his total senior appearances to 95.
He joins multiple best-and-fairest David Handley (Bell Post Hill) as confirmed departures, while reigning best-and-fairest Lachie Taylor has been linked to a move to Queensland club Labrador.
However, West has welcomed Jacob Assemani from St Joseph’s and Torquay trio Luke Wittman, Jay Kaltenbach and Flynn Eastmure.
Wittman, the son of Hawthorn premiership player Chris, has been a prolific goalkicker at Bellarine reserve grade level.
Kaltenbach and Eastmure are under-18 graduates, with Kaltenbach finishing runner-up in the AFL Barwon Division 1 best-and-fairest.
