Star Tiger joins VFL Tigers

Grovedale gun Mitch Chafer will continue his VFL journey with Werribee in 2o24.

The 24-year-old, who made seven appearances with Geelong over the past two years, has signed with the reigning grand finalists after an eye-catching performance in last week’s practice match against Williamstown at Deakin University.

“Mitch has impressed all pre-season, from being a standout in October’s trials to making an impact on Friday night against Williamstown at Deakin,” Werribee football boss Ash Collins told the club’s website.

“Mitch has consistently demonstrated a really good goal sense, hitting the scoreboard at all levels he’s played at, as we’ve seen during his stints at both Grovedale and Geelong VFL”.

GFNL: GRAND FINAL VENUE CONFIRMED

A Torquay junior, Chafer was part of the Geelong Falcons’ TAC Cup premiership in 2017.

He joined Grovedale in 2019, playing 50 games, kicking 102 goals and winning the 2022 best-and-fairest in that time.

Despite his VFL commitments with the Cats, Chafer has been named GFL Team of the Year in the last two seasons, highlighted by 42 goals from 15 games in 2023.

Werribee continues its pre-season with a practice match against Coburg as part of a carnival featuring standalone clubs at Frankston on Saturday.

The Tigers then return to Deakin Uni on 8 March to take on Geelong ahead of their Round 1 meeting with the Cats on 23 March.

Their final practice match will be at Whitten Oval against Footscray on 16 March.
