Star St Joseph’s key defender Liam Betson is free to play in Saturday’s mouthwatering match-up with South Barwon after escaping with a reprimand for an incident in last weekend’s win over Newtown & Chilwell.

The 2024 GFNL Team of the Year fullback was cited for a dangerous tackle on Eagle Connor Fopiani during the third quarter of Sunday’s loss at rain-sodden Drew Oval.

AFL Barwon’s Match Review Panel assessed the incident as careless conduct, high contact, and low impact, drawing a one-match suspension.

However, an early guilty plea from Betson, who finished runner-up in Joeys’ best-and-fairest last year, has seen that reduced to a reprimand.

The news wasn’t as good for Geelong West youngster Charlie Leavold.

He will miss matches against North Shore and Grovedale after entering an early guilty plea after being charged with striking Colac’s Luke Hillman in Saturday’s loss at West Oval.

It was assessed as intentional conduct, medium impact and high contact.

Meanwhile, in the Bellarine, Barwon Heads recruit Darcy Griffin has accepted a reprimand for rough conduct on Queenscliff’s Tyler Monahan.

The second-quarter incident was assessed as intentional conduct, contact to the body, and low impact.

The Maribyrnong Park recruit will be free to play in Saturday’s must-win meeting with Drysdale.
