Colac has won the race for the signature of Geelong VFL newcomer Hunter Wright.

It is understood that the under-18 Vic Country representative was the subject of interest of at least three GFNL clubs, with the Tigers winning out.

A Golden Square product, Wright was the co-captain of Talent League club Bendigo Pioneers last year.

“A tall, powerful midfielder at 189cm, Hunter brings clean hands, strong leadership and a penetrating left foot kick,” Colac said in a Facebook post.

“Hunter will call the Tigers home when not on duties with Geelong VFL.

“We’re excited to have a player of his calibre and character and look forward to seeing him in the yellow and black!”

Colac faces Ballarat league club Sebastopol on March 28 in their lone practice match before hosting reigning premier St Mary’s to open the new season on April 11.

Leopold has added talented South Australian midfielder Lochie Nash just over a fortnight out from its Easter Saturday meeting with St Joseph’s at Lorne.

Nash arrives from Mt Compass in the Great Southern league, where he was named on a wing in last year’s Team of the Year.

He spent the summer playing with Northern Territory club Waratah.

Nash has made the move to Victoria alongside his partner, AFLW Brooke Boileau.

Boileau has joined Carlton for the 2026 season after requesting a trade from the Adelaide Crows.

And St Joseph’s is bracing for a further four departures from its 2025 grand final team.

Key forward Joel Edwards has been linked with a move to Ballarat league club Sebastopol, where former Joeys’ Felix Henderson and Jack Buckley have signed, and Tanner Owen is understood to be playing in Melbourne.

The Betson brothers – Liam and Keelin – didn’t play in last week’s practice match win over Barwon Heads as they weigh up a return to Goulburn Valley club Mooroopna, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
