“It allows everyone to remain focused on what lies ahead this season, while also giving us the certainty to continue building our football program well into the future.”

After playing finals in Johnson’s first season, which ended with a first semi-final exit, Newtown & Chilwell is well-placed for another September appearance, sitting second with a 9-2 win-loss record.

However, the Eagles say Johnson is more than just the senior football coach.

“Since arriving at the Eagles, Steve has made a significant impact across every part of our football program and club overall,” the statement continued.

“While his work with our senior players is there for everyone to see each weekend, it’s the work that often goes unnoticed that has impressed us just as much.

“Steve has embraced our club from day one. He’s regularly out supporting our junior teams, working alongside junior coaches, attending training, mentoring young players, and taking a genuine interest in the development and direction of our junior football program.

“He’s invested in building our football program, not just one senior team.

“His standards, professionalism and commitment to creating a strong culture are exactly what we value at Newtown & Chilwell, and we’re delighted that he’ll continue leading our football program over the coming years.”
