The decision of AFL Barwon’s independent tribunal to allow North Shore coach Mark Hounslow to serve a concurrent suspension for an incident following the June 13 loss to Leopold has been overruled

Hounslow was already serving a six-match ban after approaching the umpires following the match at Memorial Park when he faced the tribunal last Wednesday night following an investigation into an allegation that he made contact with Lions player Nic Ash after the match.

Found guilty and handed a three-match suspension, the tribunal determined Hounslow could serve the bans concurrently.

However, after seeking clarification, AFL Barwon says a rule in the National Community Football Policy Handbook states, “A Person who receives more than one suspension for offences under Part E of the Policy Handbook, whether arising from the same match or not, must serve those suspensions consecutively”.

The combined suspension of nine matches, of which Hounslow has already served two matches, means he won’t coach again this year, with the Seagulls scheduled to have the bye in Round 20.
